KUCHING, May 4: It is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Bawang Assan branch chairman Romeo Tegong’s prerogative to work together with Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in ensuring electoral victory for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in Bawang Assan.

In a joint statement today, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch youth secretary Rory Wong Ee Yiin opined that Romeo’s statement in the media underscores a strategic vision aimed at fostering unity and amplifying the collective voice of Sarawakian.

“In recognising the significance of a unified front, he voiced his desire in working closely with us. There was nothing wrong with that”, he said.

On the same note, Bawang Assan Youth organsing secretary Yong Ing Hock said Romeo’s intention to cooperate with SUPP Bawang Assan is an indication of the latter’s belief in the power of partnerships.

“Through sustained cooperation and dialogue, we can synergise our efforts, leveraging on our respective strengths to propel Bawang Assan forward towards greater heights of development and prosperity,” he said.

Meanwhile, SUPP Bawang Assan Women Section’s chief, Katherine Wong, believed that Romeo Tegong’s call was prompted by the fact that a strategic alliance with SUPP, would go a long way in boosting GPS’s ability to emerge triumphant in Bawang Assan.

“Having known Romeo Tegong for quite some time, I do believe his actions or words are all aimed at underscoring the imperative of securing victory for the GPS candidate,” Wong said.

On May 1, Romeo stated that PBB Bawang Assan branch will cooperate with SUPP for the coming State Election.

Following that statement, on May 2, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) Bawang Assan deputy youth chief Raymond Gema Tutus said that by prematurely making a public announcement, Romeo has rocked the GPS boat and shown a lack of understanding towards the leadership and directive of the party.

On May 3, SUPP Women’s chief Kho Teck Wan said that SUPP will seek to reclaim its traditional seat of Bawang Assan in next State Election. — DayakDaily
