SIBU, May 1: Parti Pesaka Bersatu Bumiputera (PBB) Bawang Assan branch has expressed its stance to cooperate with Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) in the next State Election (PRN).

Its chairman Romeo Christopher Tegong said this is because the Bawang Assan seat belongs to SUPP.

“We (PBB) in Bawang Assan do not want to rock the ‘boat’ of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) anymore which will end up harming ourselves. Bawang Assan’s seat belongs to SUPP.

“The Bawang Assan Branch (PBB) has today decided as advised by the Premier of Sarawak who is also the President of PBB (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) to cooperate with SUPP to retain the N53 Bawang Assan State seat belonging to SUPP,” he said at a press conference after the PBB Bawang Assan Annual General Meeting (AGM) here, today.

Romeo reiterated that his branch decided to cooperate with SUPP and take a stand to be with SUPP.

For now, he stressed, the Bawang Assan state seat is a traditional SUPP seat and it is a GPS principle to cooperate with any SUPP-GPS candidate.

“PBB is the backbone of GPS in the State. We have about 3,724 members in the Bawang Assan area. I call on all the Women and Youth movements to work together hard for the GPS candidate to win in the election.

“We must work hard this time because the Bawang Assan area has long been lagging behind with development such as rural transformation (programme) projects (RTP), poor longhouses, infrastructure and markets.

“It is enough for us to feel difficulty all this time; this is the time we help candidates from young people to represent Bawang Assan,” he stressed.

when asked about the dissolution of Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and its former members joining Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Romeo, who is also a Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, said he welcomed the move.

“We very much welcome their action to join PDP because it is good for Bawang Assan. There is less opposition; as long as they are sincere with GPS.

“By joining GPS, we hope to cooperate with them (former PSB members who joined PDP) including winning (the seat for) the GPS candidate in the next PRN,” he said.

Meanwhile, Romeo said the AGM aimed to prepare all 13 branches and two protem branches in preparation for the upcoming PRN.

He noted that the next Sarawak elections may be held next year or 2026, as previously said by the Sarawak Premier. — DayakDaily
