KUCHING, Nov 14: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Batu Kitang Youth secretary Leonard Tan has lodged a police report over an allegedly fake video clip which is currently going viral on WhatsApp.

Calling it a dirty tactic to discredit Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) P196 Stampin candidate Lo Khere Chiang, Tan said the video which allegedly shows Lo making a comment about empurau has been edited by irresponsible people to create feelings of hatred.

Empurau is considered an exotic fish because of its high commercial value, fetching anywhere from RM1,000 to RM1,500 per kg.

“The original video was made on Oct 16, 2021, which was used before the last Sarawak election.

“However, someone took the old video and edited it to mislead the voters of Stampin constituency as if Lo looked down on those who cannot afford to eat empurau, thus they should not vote for him in this coming 15th General Election (GE15),” Tan said when met at the Sungai Maong police station, today.

He added many people have responded negatively towards Lo after watching the video.

Apart from urging their political opponents to engage in a clean and fair fight, Tan also asked them to stop using such tactics to woo voters during the GE15 campaign period

P196 Stampin will see a three-cornered fight between incumbent Chong Chieng Jen from Democratic Action Party (DAP), Lo (GPS-SUPP) and Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) Lue Cheng Hing who is contesting under a Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) logo.

Lo is also the Batu Kitang assemblyman and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman. — DayakDaily
