KUCHING, Jan 14: A supervisor with a local municipal council today pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a charge of physical sexual assault of a 7-year-old boy.
Judge Mohd Taufik Mohd Yusoff then fixed Feb 14 for pre-trial case management of the case. He also allowed the accused, Meli Tintang, 56, to be released on a court bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties.
Meli was charged under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children 2017 for allegedly touching a boy’s private part at the male toilet located on the ground floor of the municipal council building on Dec 6, 2018, at about 8.40am.
Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children 2017 carries a jail term not exceeding 20 years and shall also be liable to whipping.
The accused was represented by counsel Abdul Rahman Mohamad Hazmi, while DPP Syarifah Fatimah Azura prosecuted. — DayakDaily
