Supervisor killed after car collides with van in Sibu

SIBU, Aug 16: A supervisor of a convenience store lost his life after the car he was driving skidded and crashed into a van travelling in the opposite lane at Jalan Deshon today.

After the collision which happened at about 9.30am, both the supervisor, 28, who was driving a Perodua Kancil and the driver of the van, 40, were found trapped in their respective vehicle.

Sibu district police chief ASP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said a police investigation found that the victim who was coming from the direction of Sibu town towards Sungai Merah was believed to have lost control of his vehicle which then skidded across the road before colliding with a van which also collided with an oil tanker truck on its left side.


“The driver of the van was found stuck in his seat with a broken left leg. He has been sent to Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” he said.

Prior to the accident, the supervisor was on his way to work from his house at Jalan Permai. He died on the spot.

At the time of the incident, it was drizzling which resulted in slippery road conditions.

Stanley said the case is being investigated under sSection 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

A team of firefighters from the Sungai Merah station who were deployed to the scene managed to extract the two trapped victims using special equipment. — DayakDaily
