KUCHING, Aug 22: Sunway Group (Sunway) is looking into replicating green township Sunway City in Kuala Lumpur here in Kuching.
Sunway Education Group chief executive officer (CEO) Professor Elizabeth Lee said this is the hope and dream of Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah.
āEverything will be integrated (in the eco-township). So you can walk everywhere, like in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur (KL).
āSo within the township, there will be medical healthcare, education, tourism, and of course commercial elements,ā Lee told reporters in a press conference when visiting Sunway College Kuching here from KL today.
She said the proposed township would also promote green energy, healthy living and sustainability, which is in line with the aspirations of the Sarawak government toward 2030.
Lee thus expressed the hopes of Cheah to meet up with the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss the realisation of this eco-township development plan.
āHe (Cheah) is very much keen to bring his whole team over here (to Kuching). He even came here last month to personally scout for sites (for the proposed township),ā she said.
Explaining why Sunway is eager to bring the idea of eco-friendly cities and communities to Sarawak, Lee said Sunway wishes to be part of the Sarawak governmentās progress in developing the State.
āThe Sarawak government is very keen to develop Sarawak. So, we would very much like to be a part of that and to support the government. Why now? Well, itās now or never,ā she said.
Sunway City is recognised as Malaysiaās first fully integrated green township that has been Green Building Index certified in 2012 and won the Low Carbon City Award by the Malaysian Institue of Planners in 2016. ā DayakDaily
