KUCHING, Feb 23: The Covid-19 cluster in Sungai Bakong, Meradong reported the most number of new cases today.
According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the Sungai Bakong Cluster witnessed 35 new cases.
The Sungai Bakong cluster was identified after a secondary school student in SMK Meradong tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 15. He had lost his sense of smell and exhibited symptoms for coronavirus on Feb 12.
Following active case detection at the dormitory of the boarding school, more cases subsequently emerged.
It was reported that the school’s teachers, staff and students are undergoing quarantine for precautionary measures.
A total of 621 individuals have been screened for Covid-19 while 491 individuals are still awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab tests.
In the meantime, Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster seemed to have stabilised with single-digit increases daily reported since Feb 21.
However, the number of individuals awaiting for the results of their Covid-19 swab test remains high at 193.
The Pasai Cluster is currently Sarawak’s most prolific cluster, infecting approximately 2,648 individuals.
Meanwhile, the Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Padawan today witnessed a double-digit increase in new cases.
Ten new cases were reported while 177 individuals are awaiting swab test results.
Other active Covid-19 clusters in the state which reported new cases include a new cluster called the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong which reported 17 new cases, Nanga Lijan in Julau with six new cases, Univista in Samarahan (4), Rakut (2), Kampung Sungai Maong (1), Kidurong Dua (1) and Seruas (1).
There are currently 25 active clusters in Sarawak.
The other active clusters namely, Jalan Green in Kuching, Kejatau (Sri Aman), Jan Yong (Kapit), Geronggong (Sibu), Mas Merah (Sibu), Gelong (Kapit), Sebangkoi (Sri Aman), Jun Heng (Bintulu), Bintang Daily (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran (Matu), Tabong (Bau), Indah Riang (Kuching), Bedayan (Serian), Bukit Sekubong (Sebauh) and Jelita (Miri) report no new Covid-19 cases today. — DayakDaily
