KUCHING, May 1: The Malaysia Games (Sukma) Supreme Committee has officially agreed to offer a total of 488 events for Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 which is scheduled to take place from Aug 17 to 24 2024.
According to a National Sports Council (MSN) statement yesterday, Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, Hannah Yeoh who chaired the meeting had agreed to the total number of events which is divided into 236 men’s events, 217 women’s events and 35 mixed or open events in the 37 types of sports contested.
It elaborated that each event must see minimum participation of athletes from six states for it to be contested.
The statement further disclosed that the 21st Sukma will be held in nine divisions throughout Sarawak, namely Kuching with 25 types of sports, Samarahan (2), Serian (1), Sri Aman (1), Betong (1), Sibu (3), Mukah (3), Bintulu (3) and Miri (6) to ensure the excitement can be felt by the people throughout Sarawak.
The organisers have also identified five main sports villages to accommodate the athletes from the 15 competing contingents at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in Kota Samarahan, Laila Taib College in Sibu, UiTM Campus Mukah, UPM Campus Bintulu and IKBN Miri.
Among other matters decided by the committee is that a total of 108 overlapping athlete registrations has been resolved by MSN and the Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 Secretariat through a mutual agreement between the various contingents involved.
