Sukma 2024: Wushu athlete Fung Tai Leong wins first medal for Sarawak, secures bronze

KUCHING, Aug 14: Sarawak wushu athlete Fung Tai Leong has delivered the first medal for the State as he secured bronze in the men’s nanquan event at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2024 today.

The gold medal went to Melaka athlete Bryan Ti Kai Jie who scored 9.600 points while Perak’s Foo Mun Fei finished in second place.

Both Fung and Foo recorded the same score – 9.560 points.

The unofficial result for the Wushu men’s nanquan event at Sukma 2024.

There were 17 athletes competing in the men’s nanquan event which took place at SSC Wushu Hall, Petra Jaya here this morning.

Speaking to reporters after the medal presentation ceremony, Fung said he felt a bit stressed before the event.

“I wish that I could have gotten a better medal but I’m still thankful for this bronze and I am proud to have been able to represent Sarawak,” he said.

This is Fung’s second time competing in Sukma.

The 20-year-old has trained for two years for the Games, including a two-month stint in China. — DayakDaily
