Sukma 2024: Sarawak bags 3 gold medals, 1 bronze on first day of swimming event

KUCHING, Aug 19: Sarawak bagged three gold medals and one bronze on the first day of the swimming event at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) held at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre here today.

Swimmer Kelly Teo Yao, 18, brought home two gold from the women’s 200-metre freestyle event with a time of 2:06:87 and clocked 5:08:15 for the 400m individual medley event.

Her compatriot Chereen Ngo Yi Rui, 14, also made an impressive performance as she settled for bronze in the women’s 200 freestyle event with a time of 2:10:97.

Meanwhile, Sarawak’s third gold was delivered by 19-year-old Jeff Chua Yu Yang in the men’s 50m backstroke event with a time of 27:19.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, presented the medals to the winners during a presentation ceremony held at the venue. — DayakDaily
