KUCHING, Aug 15: Sarawak claimed its third gold medal at the 21st Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024 today, with Nur Hazirah Ramli emerging victorious in the women’s singles tenpin bowling event at Megalanes Emart Batu Kawa today.
Nur Hazirah delivered an impressive performance, toppling 1,261 pins to secure first place.
Selangor’s Adania Mohd Redzwan closely followed with 1,254 pinfalls, earning the silver medal, while Haiffa Hazlan from the Federal Territory rounded out the podium with a bronze, having knocked down 1,239 pins.
“Winning on my home ground is incredibly special, especially since this is my final year at Sukma. I am very happy,” said Nur Hazirah when met by reporters.
This marks her third apperance, following Sukma Perak in 2018 and Sukma Kuala Lumpur in 2022.
“I faced some challenges today, particularly with adjusting to the lanes and maintaining my composure throughout the game to ensure consistent momentum. It was crucial to avoid overthinking the results and focus on doing my best. I just kept pushing forward,” she added.
Thankful and relieved, Nur Hazirah dedicated the victory to her family, especially her grandmother, as well as her coaches and friends.
“They’ve been my rock, always pushing me on when I felt like giving up. I’m happy to know they always have my back.”
Looking ahead, Nur Hazirah is determined to give her all in the upcoming women’s doubles event, hoping to support her team and add more medals to Sarawak’s tally.
Deputy Minister of Sports Development Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu was present at the medal presentation ceremony.
Her latest victory brings Sarawak’s medal tally to seven, including two gold, one silver and three bronze earned through wushu.
Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern clinched two golds in the women’s changquan and jianshu events.
Carmen Chaw Jia Min contributed with a silver in the women’s taijijian and a bronze in the women’s taijiquan.
Additionally, Fung Tai Leong secured bronze in the men’s nanquan, while Mok Xiao Yuan added another bronze in the men’s taijiquan event. — DayakDaily
