KUCHING, Aug 18: Sarawakian archer Aira Nadirah Aizuddin added another medal to the State’s tally by winning bronze in the Women’s 50-metre Compound category in Sukma 2024 with 680 points.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Hadira Hisham of the Federal Territories also recorded 680 points but scored more within the ‘bull’s eye’ range (10 points and ‘X’), allowing her to cinch the silver.
Nurul Syaza Husna Mahari from Terengganu scored by one point (681 points) to win the gold.
When interviewed, Aira shared her disappointment but thanked her coach and hoped to spread Sarawak’s name further through archery.
Aira, who will be sitting for her SPM examination, said she had done her best to balance intensive training and her studies with discipline, efficient time management, and support from the coaches.
“I will give my best in both fields. I am a little disappointed because the score difference is small. However, I am still grateful for this bronze medal and determined to improve my performance in the future.
“I will perform in the individual and team archery events on Tuesday. I am determined to give my best for Sarawak,” she said when met by reporters after the medal presentation ceremony today.
Meanwhile, in the Men’s 50-metre Compound event, Federal Territories archer Afiq Zufar Mohamad Shah won gold, followed by Terengganu’s Muhammad Aiman Syafiq Mohd Tariki (silver) and Perak’s Abdul Faathir Aqil Rafizam (bronze). — DayakDaily
