The video opened with special remarks from Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg together with fellow Sarawakians and tourists who conveyed their warm wishes and greetings.

Among those featured were Afick Wazai and Fir Affandi who is also known as MakCik Bawang Chempiyen, sape player Alena Murang, professor of physics Dr Michio Kaku and local artiste Melissa Francis.

Director Azizi Khalil emphasised that Sarawak Day is a very memorable and special holiday for everyone in Sarawak as this date commemorates the self-governance transition to a fully local administration from the British Government on July 22, 1963, thus forming Malaysia together with the Federation of Malaya, North Borneo and Singapore later that year.

“I hope that Sarawakians will learn from their achievements and never forget the sacrifices made by past leaders in uniting the people of Sarawak and stabilising Sarawak in many aspects. Hence, many consider the date July 22 as Sarawak independence day,” he said.

On the video, he commended that it was a team effort as nothing would bring Sarawakians together better than being united on this special day.

“And in this one video, we want to reflect the unity which Sarawak is known,” he added.

Sarawak Day was gazetted as an observed public holiday during the administration of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem who was the fifth Chief Minister of Sarawak back in 2016.
