MIRI, Aug 6 : The bed capacity at Miri Hospital and five other Low Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) are still sufficient to accommodate Covid-19 patients.
In fact, according to Miri Hospital deputy director Dr Francis Heng, for the last two weeks, bed capacity is at about 20 per cent occupied by Covid-19 related cases.
“Its a reducing trend,” he said when met today after receiving contribution in the form of 1,962 bottles of Merris brand cooking oil by the Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad (SOPB) to healthcare workers at Miri Hospital.
“Officially at Miri Hospital, we have a total 349 beds, just the additional (beds) are at PKRC around Miri for instance at Eastwood, Kampung Sukan, Senadin, Pujut and Meritz. These are places we place all the low risk Covid-19 patients,” he said.
Dr Heng added, in terms of bed capacity for Covid-19, the situation for the northern region which also include Marudi, Limbang and Lawas is manageable. Miri Hospital is also handling cases from these areas.
On Thursday (Aug 5), the admissions to Miri hospital shown an increase, at about 100 cases after the last two weeks due to the emergence of the Mega Suai Cluster.
“Previously, its been like 16, 18 and 20 cases for about a week plus,” Dr Heng pointed out.
“For Mega Suai Cluster, yesterday we received 192 admissions and the situation (admissions) was expected because the last 10 days the plantation has been under lockdown after some of its workers were detected for Covid-19 infections, and this was their second swabs,” he said.
The estate has a total population of 225 workers
On Aug 5, Mega Suai Cluster recorded a total 160 positive Covid-19 cases, bringing the total to 177 for Miri Division. — DayakDaily
