KUCHING, Aug 9: The general public is invited to participate in the ‘Sukma XXI Sarawak 2024 Photography and Video Competition’ and win cash prizes amounting to RM15,500.
Organised by the Kuching Division Journalists Association (KDJA) and supported by the Sukma Sarawak Secretariat, the competition will commence from Aug 12 to 24.
Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the competition is divided into three categories, namely Open Photography, Youth Photography, and Videography.
“For the Open Photography Category, the winner will receive a cash prize of RM3,000 while those in second and third place will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively.
“There are also five consolation prizes where each winner will receive RM200,” he said at the press conference after the ‘SUKMA XXI’ mobile app launching ceremony held at Baitul Makmur II here today.
Meanwhile, the Youth Category is only limited to school, college, and university students and youth aged 25 and below.
The winner will receive a cash prize of RM2,000, followed by RM1,000 for second place, RM750 for third place, and five consolation prizes of RM100 each.
For the Videography Category, the first-place winner will receive a cash prize of RM2,000, followed by RM1,000 for second place, RM750 for third place, and five consolation prizes of RM100 each.

At the same time, Abdul Karim said there will be a separate contest for the media where they can submit their entries to win the ‘Picture & Article of The Day’.
The Sukma Secretariat will choose the ‘Picture of the Day’ and “Article of The Day” for each day throughout Sukma 2024, beginning Aug 16 until Aug 25.
Each winning picture/article will get a cash prize of RM100.
“The winning pictures and articles will be exhibited at a special space in the Main Media Room of the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, which we will officiate tomorrow (Aug 10),” he added.
Also present were Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations) and Sukma 2024 Secretariat chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee; Ministry of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing permanent secretary Datu Felicia Tan; MYSED permanent secretary Morshidi Fredrick; and Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) general manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng. — DayakDaily
