Student pleads guilty to hurting prefect, court sets Feb 2 to hear probation report

KUCHING, Dec 30: The Magistrate’s Court here set Feb 2, 2023, to hear the probation report of a 16-year-old boy who pleaded guilty to a charge of causing grievous hurt to another student.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.


However, as the accused is still underage, the Magistrate has to hear the probation report before delivering the sentence.

The accused allegedly hurt the victim, a 17-year-old boy, at the dining hall of a boarding school here at about 6.30am on Nov 2.

He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term of up to 20 years and a possible fine or caning upon conviction.

According to the brief facts of the case, the victim was a school prefect. On the day of the incident, the victim confronted the accused as he saw the boy was wearing a pair of slippers at the school’s dining hall.

The accused then threw a plastic chair towards the victim, injuring the victim’s forehead and eyes.

The victim was hospitalised for a night due to the incident, and his father lodged the police report on Nov 22.
