KUCHING, April 27: A student was killed while another was seriously injured in an accident at the Batu 11 traffic lights on Jalan Kuching-Serian on Tuesday night (April 25).

“While the victim’s car was making a U-turn when the traffic light was still red, suddenly a Ford Ranger pickup driven by a man who was moving straight from the direction of Serian towards Kuching hit the victim’s car.

“As a result of the collision, the victim’s car crashed onto the left shoulder of the road,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that the two victims were then rushed to the Sarawak General Hospital.

However, he said, the passenger of the Axia car was confirmed dead by a Sarawak General Hospital medical officer at 2.51am yesterday.

The deceased is a male student, 19, from Kampung Bengoh, Jalan Puncak Borneo.

“The victim who died was a passenger in the Perodua Axia car and the driver of the car was also a 19-year-old male student who was seriously injured.

“Meanwhile, the driver of the Ford Ranger did not suffer any injuries,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
