SIBU, April 6: Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee is taking tougher action as the current Covid-19 situation here is showing no sign of abating.

Its coordinator, Dr Annuar Rapaee in his daily Sibu Covid-19 update via Facebook live today said stricter standard operating procedure (SOP) monitoring will be conducted starting this week.

He said this enhanced SOP monitoring would be in effect at three places as most of the cases happened at the workplace.

These places include public areas which consist of supermarkets, shops, factories and plantations.

“The police are already leading an integrated SOP monitoring team. But we need to beef up the SOP monitoring due to infections at places of work especially when workers gather together for their meal,” he said.

Among workplace clusters here are the Jalan Maju, Sanyan and Jalan Aman Roundabout clusters.

The Nangka assemblyman added that related government agencies had been informed of this SOP monitoring during a meeting today.

Of the 81 cases reported in Sibu today, he noted that 64 cases were from quarantine centres, active case detection (3), healthcare facilities (10) and community (4).

“Those from the quarantine centres are those who had close contact with positive cases in Sanyan, Jalan Maju and Jalan Aman Roundabout clusters. They were found positive via their second swab test,” he said.

The three cases today detected via ACD were from the Sanyan cluster while the 10 in healthcare facilities were those who sought treatment for shortness of breath and pneumonia.

Sibu Municipal Council areas, Dr Annuar revealed, reported 54 cases, followed by Sibu Rural District Council areas with 12 and Sibu Jaya with 15.

Answering a netizen’s question about vaccinations in view of schools having reopened, he said it was beyond the Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee’s control as it was not responsible for the supply of vaccines.

“The second rollout of the vaccine is on April 19. Hopefully we can have enough supply,” he said. — DayakDaily
