KUCHING, Jan 19: Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar concurred that following development in the state, the issue of strata titles must be resolved.
As he had assisted the federal government to draft related laws to resolve this issue previously, he is ready to assist the Sarawak government on this matter, if needed.
“I would like to congratulate YAB CM on his intention to resolve the strata title problems. It is, in fact, imperative for the problem to be resolved.
“As the country progresses and buildings getting taller, strata titles become an issue. Creative developers will come up with creative ways of developing properties, so legal provisions must be enacted to give ownership to the property of various dimensions,” emphasised Wan Junaidi in a statement today.
He was responding to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s announcement that the issue of strata titles in Sarawak would be resolved soon after amendments to relevant laws. Abang Johari said this at the Sheda Annual Dinner and Excellence Awards 2018 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here last night.
Wan Junaid said he had helped to formulate policies following amendments to laws during his tenure as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (NRE).
“Malaya’s strata title act had gone through a tremendous revolution when I was the minister charged with land matters. I’ve some experience on how the strata title problems can be resolved.
“Malaya has developed ‘upward’ due to land prices, and they experienced the problems much earlier. For years, developers and government were facing the dauntless task of solving the unsolvable due to the inadequacy in the law.
“Malaya land problem was resolved after few amendments that I made during my tenure as the Minister of NRE. I don’t mind, if invited, to assist in the framing of the laws with respect to land, development and acquisition, which are closely connected with strata titles,” said Wan Junaidi. — DayakDaily
