KUCHING, Aug 5: Sarawak Metro has issued a stop-work order to the contractor at a Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Simpang Tiga construction site after a construction worker was killed in a fall from the top of a 14-metre structure this morning.
In a statement, Sarawak Metro confirmed that the victim, a Nepalese national, was fatally injured in the incident, which occurred at about 8.30am while he was installing deck slabs at the construction site.
“Immediately after the incident, the victim was sent to the nearest hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly upon arrival,” the company said.
Sarawak Metro said it and its contractor are cooperating closely with the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to investigate the cause of the incident.
The stop-work order will remain in place at the affected site pending investigations by the relevant authorities.
Sarawak Metro said it is committed to ensuring safety standards are upheld at all its construction sites and will cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. — DayakDaily
