KUCHING, Sept 10: Face masks will remain compulsory at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) building, says its mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

He said MBKS would exercise its rights to require all its staff and patrons to use face masks while on its premises.

“This is to protect our staff and the public themselves because the customer flow in MBKS here is rather high with people coming in and going out.

“We will prepare some free face masks at the security counter, just in case some forget to bring theirs,” he said during his ShallWeeTalk Facebook live session today.

Meanwhile, Wee encouraged all business operators and premises owners within the council’s jurisdiction to maintain the face mask rule on their property as Covid-19 is still around.

He said face masks are affordable and available these days, not to mention that many have already gotten used to them.

“So I think we should continue to wear face masks, especially indoors. Let’s maintain it while we gauge the Covid-19 situation,” he added.

On Wednesday (Sept 7), Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that face masks are optional indoors but subject to the premises owners’ discretion. — DayakDaily
