KUCHING, April 26: Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu lauded Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF) for organising a unique opportunity for visitors to experience a traditional Gawai Dayak celebration while leaving a positive economic impact on the people of Betong.

He said visitors would not only have the opportunity to learn about Dayak tradition and customs, but gain a deeper appreciation of Sarawak and its people.

“STF is allowing visitors a greater insight into the meaning of unity in diversity in Sarawak,” he said.

“Not only that, visitors who come to Betong for the STF Open House would have the opportunity to see the Grand Gawai Parade on June 10 but to check out the local handicraft exhibition, local food and delicacies in Betong town organised by Betong Resident’s Office.

“All this would benefit the vendors involved, and it would be good for those who are in the business in selling their products to visitors,” he added.

Rentap told reporters during a press conference for the STF Gawai Dayak Open House and Parade 2023 which will be held on June 9 to 11, at Rumah Anyie Rajit at Matop, Betong, at Telang Usan Hotel here today.

Elaborating further on the event, Rentap, who is the Layar assemblyman, said that visitors (local and overseas) could visit the open house by joining an inbound tour package for RM650 per pax (limited to 80 pax) for the 3-day-2-night package organised by STF and Sarawak Inbound Agencies (ASIA) from June 9 to 11.

“For those who wish to drive on their own, the package is available at RM450 per pax. This package includes accommodation, meals, sightseeing, and attendance at the Gawai events,” he said.

Also present was STF president Audrey Wan Ullok.
