KUCHING, Jan 2: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is ushering in the festive season with the release of a limited-edition Chinese New Year ang pao featuring the Bornean Palm Pit Viper, a species native to Sarawak’s Mulu and Gunung Gading National Parks.
In a media release today, STB announced that visitors can collect these exclusive ang pao packets starting Jan 2 at the Visitors Information Centres in Kuching, Miri, and Sibu, while supplies last.
Now in its seventh year, STB’s annual ang pao tradition celebrates Sarawak’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
This year’s design, inspired by the Year of the Wood Snake, showcases intricate gold stamping and the Bornean Palm Pit Viper, symbolising resilience, growth, and Sarawak’s extraordinary biodiversity.
STB chief executive officer Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor highlighted the initiative’s aim to foster appreciation for Sarawak’s natural heritage through responsible tourism.
“This year’s ang pao underscores Sarawak’s vital ecosystems, encouraging greater conservation awareness.
“Through meaningful initiatives like this, we aim to inspire residents and visitors to discover and protect Sarawak’s natural heritage,” she said.
The campaign reinforces Sarawak’s position as a premier eco-tourism destination by merging cultural traditions with environmental stewardship.
By promoting a balance between sustainable tourism growth and conservation, STB aims to inspire both residents and visitors to discover and protect the region’s unique ecosystems.
STB invites everyone to join in the festivities and celebrate the Year of the Wood Snake with this meaningful ang pao, symbolising strength, growth, and care for the environment—a tribute to Sarawak’s natural beauty and sustainability efforts. —DayakDaily
