KUCHING, Feb 23: The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development is organising it’s first ever Sarawak X-Tive, an event dubbed as the State’s version of National Sports Day.

The event, scheduled on March 5, will be held in Gedong, simultaneously in 12 other divisions statewide.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the meeting today, minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to launch the event together with some 1,000 participants in Gedong.

The targeted number of participants at division levels in Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Sarikei, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang is expected to be no less than 500 each.

There will be four main activity components, namely fitness, recreational, extreme and traditional sports.

Among the popular sporting events that will be organised on the day are a fun ride, aerobics, zumba, autoshow, futsal, wall climbing, water sports, sepak raga bulatan, e-sports, boat racing, arm wrestling and many others tailored to the local community’s favourites.

“Sarawak X-tive is an initiative to cultivates sports for its value, well-being, active lifestyle and unity of our community. With increased community events and involvement among our youths in sports, this will help steer them away or avoid negative social symptoms.

“We must inculcate sports culture as a daily practice in our society because it can lead to the creation of a larger group of diverse local sports talents and raise Sarawak at national and international levels.

“Involvement like this will not only help Sarawak government’s efforts towards turning the State into a sport powerhouse at the national level but also create various employment opportunities,” Anduk Karim said. — DayakDaily
