KUCHING, June 24: As the third largest contributor for the country’s  Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Sarawak deserves a larger annual budget for development from the Federal government.
According to a news report from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki pointed out that Sarawak is still behind in terms of road connectivity, water and electricity supply, especially in the rural areas.
“The physical condition of schools, clinics, student dormitories, officers’ residences in rural areas are also very poor and requires a large allocation for repair and construction works.
“The Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex along the border with Indonesia is also in a bad state,” he said during the Half-Term Review of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) Engagement Session held at a local hotel, yesterday.
Meanwhile, during the engagement session, Abu Bakar higlighted Sarawak’s Post Covid Development Strategy (PCDS) 2023.
He also spoke about Sarawak’s new economy approach based on green technology introduced by the Sarawak government led by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, followed by a dialogue session with Minister of Economy Rafizi Ramli and his deputy Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib. — DayakDaily
