KUCHING, Feb 20: The gazetting of the Interpretation (Amendment) Bill 2022 will be made immediately, said Assistant Minister of Law, MA63 and Federal State Relations Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.

She revealed the gazetting will be implemented by the State Secretary Office.

“The gazetting will be made as soon as possible, that is within two weeks,” she said when met at the ‘Let’s Talk With Wanita Pemadam’ programme held in conjunction with the Sarawak State Anti-Drug Day Celebration at the State Library today.

The Interpretation (Amendment) Bill 2022 was passed by the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Tuesday (Feb 15).

Sharifah Hasidah also said that the fight to reclaim one-third of parliamentary seats for Sarawak would continue.

She said it was Sarawak’s right enshrined in Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Intergovernmental Committee Report (IGCR).

“I am not sure whether it will be implemented before or after the next general election. We will bring this matter up to the highest level.

“We do not know when the election will be, but we will continue this struggle, if possible before the election.

“Before Singapore left Malaysia, our share (of seats) should have been one-third in Parliament, but now it is decreasing,” she said.

Sharifah Hasidah added that the one-third representation is Sarawak’s right in Parliament so that there are more elected representatives from Sarawak in Parliament. — DayakDaily
