State govt urged to set up Selangau District Council

KUCHING, Nov 9: Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira Sambang hoped the state government would set up Selangau District Council (SDC) to serve the people better, as Sibu Rural Development Council (SRDC) has too vast an area to administer.

Debating the State Budget 2019, he said he made this proposal during the last sitting of the august House, but nothing came out of it.

“The need for a local council in Selangau is to provide better basic amenities, public infrastructure and professional services to the people,” he said.

He argued that SRDC could not give every area proper attention as it had to look after an area spanning 6,000 sq km, comprising Sibu Jaya, Selangau District, Durin and Bawang Assan.

If SDC is created, he proposed it covers Siong, Sekuau, Batang Oya, Selangau and up to Arip. — DayakDaily
