KUCHING, Feb 11: The Sarawak government through the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will write an official letter to former Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon to recover the payment in wages made to the latter from May 12, 2017.

Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar made the announcement at a press conference here today after the Federal Court’s decision to disqualify DAP Dr Ting as Pujut assemblyman this morning.

“The ruling made today has clearly said Dr Ting is disqualified. Therefore he has never been a lawful elected representative of Pujut. As such, he should not be receiving such salaries and benefits of an assemblyman.

“Once we receive a copy of the ruling, our DUN secretary will kindly write to Dr Ting to ask him to reimburse back all the above back to the state government,” Mohd Asfia said.

Dr Ting had lost in the “dual citizenship” case in a seven-to-two majority decision by nine-judge bench Federal Court today.

He also lost his representation in the Sarawak DUN and thus, his Pujut seat. — DayakDaily
