KUCHING, Oct 25: Malaysia Sports Commissioner Suhardi Alias says that all registered sports bodies nationwide, including in Sarawak and Sabah, will be gauged by a ‘star rating’ system on their performances until Dec 11, 2023.

Suhardi said that the rating system introduced last month is for these sports bodies to attract sponsors to support their events and give weightage to carrying out their activities to generate revenue.

“This star rating system initiative is to also to measure whether they are eligible in grants assistance for these sport bodies by the Prime Minister in his recent budget announcement,” he revealed.

Suhardi told reporters this after attending the town hall session with Sarawak sports bodies at Auditorium Kompleks Belia Dan Sukan Sarawak here today

During the town hall session, Suhardi explained that its objective among others is to emphasise the importance of proper registration in the region to all sports bodies in Sarawak.

He elaborated that the town hall is a platform to disseminate various guidelines related to certain challenges and issues faced by sports bodies in the State.

Suhardi said the commission had given its perspectives and recommendations to ensure all these issues are solved.

He revealed that the commission had heard various recommendations and complaints from many sports bodies nationwide as the government is amending the Sports Development Act 1997.

“These recommendations included new sports in the 103 main sports bodies in the country,” he said, adding the commission would also bring forward these recommendations to be considered by the government when amending the Act.

“We want the Act to be more holistic and to benefit the sports bodies, including those in Sarawak. We hope to resolve this issue amicably soon after we take the recommendations in Sabah,” said Suhardi.
