Stampin Resettlement Scheme’s drainage system in bad shape — SUPP leader

Yap (crouching) and other SUPP leaders going to the ground to check out the complaints of Stampin Resettlement Scheme residents.

KUCHING, Dec 3: The relevant authorities should fix the poor drainage system at Stampin Resettlement Scheme as it is causing ponding and flash floods in the area.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau (SPCB) chief Wilfred Yap said the poor drainage condition was impeding the flow of water, causing stagnant ponds of water and flash flooding every time it rains.

“As such, the residents have requested for the clearing and improvement works to be carried out on the earthen drains to prevent ponding and flash flooding in view of the rainy season,” said Yap in a statement today.

Following requests for assistance, Yap and other SUPP members had gone to assess the situation to see what could be done to resolve the problem promptly.

Besides calling on the relevant state authorities to resolve the issue, Yap also hoped Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Kota Sentosa assemblyman and Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, would help the affected residents by securing development funds from the federal government for a long-term solution.

Meanwhile, Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa branch chairman, said SPCB is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone facing problems or to those who come across problems of public interest but does not know how to deal with it. — DayakDaily
