KUCHING, March 26: The relocation of key utilities at the Stampin Resettlement Scheme along Jalan Stampin Baru has entered its final coordination stage, paving the way for the long-awaited flood mitigation project under the Rancangan Tebatan Banjir di Kawasan Skim Penempatan Semula Stampin.

In a press statement, Kota Sentosa Assemblyman Wilfred Yap said that with the current progress on the utility relocation plans, he is hopeful that the tender by Sarawak Drainage & Irrigation Department (DID) for the flood mitigation project could be called before end of May 2026.

Yap emphasised the importance of close coordination among all agencies and stakeholders to expedite the process, noting that flood mitigation remains a top priority for residents of the Stampin Resettlement Scheme, who have long been affected by recurring flooding.

“This joint effort demonstrates our shared commitment to resolving long-standing flood issues in the area. Finalising the utility relocation is a crucial milestone, and I thank all agencies and community leaders for their cooperation in moving this project forward,” he said, during a site visit to the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.

The site visit aimed to assess on-site conditions and finalise agreements on the scope and costs of relocating key utilities, including water pipelines, electrical infrastructure, and telecommunication lines. Preliminary estimates put the cost of relocating electricity infrastructure at RM15 million, and telecommunication lines at RM3 million.

Sarawak Energy Berhad and Telekom Malaysia have agreed to furnish the final costing to the project consultant before the end of April 2026.

Once completed, the flood mitigation project is expected to significantly improve drainage capacity and reduce flooding risks, enhancing safety and quality of life for residents in the Stampin Resettlement Scheme.

The site visit was attended by representatives from Sarawak DID, Sarawak Rivers Board, Telekom Malaysia, Sacofa Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Water, Sarawak Energy Berhad, and project consultant Jurutera ADDA Sdn Bhd. Community leaders present included Pemanca Jakup Buan, Kapitan Chai Yong Liang, Kapitan Boon Voon Min, TR Christopher Chaong, and TR Michael Mada. – DayakDaily
