KUCHING, Sept 5: Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen has requested that the Padawan District Police set up an additional traffic accident report centre in the MJC area of Batu Kawah.

In a statement today, Chong, who also serves as Sarawak DAP chief, highlighted the need for a new centre following a meeting with Padawan District Police Chief Mohd Irwan Hafiz.

The meeting addressed issues of rampant drug abuse and public requests for more traffic accident reporting facilities.

“I have expressed my deep concern over the rampant drug abuse in Kuching Division and hope the situation can improve,” Chong said.

He also noted that current accident reporting processes are inconvenient for many.

“There is a public request for an additional traffic accident report centre around the MJC area because currently, all accident reports must be made at the 17th Mile police station. This means that if a traffic accident occurs in Matang, the involved parties have to travel to the 17th Mile to file a report,” Chong explained.

During the meeting, Mohd Irwan pointed out that the Padawan police district is responsible for a large area, extending from the 22nd Mile Jalan Penrissen to Telaga Air, covering approximately 1,400 square kilometers.

“Given the vast area, the Padawan Police District requires more personnel to effectively carry out their duties. I assured the OCPD that I would raise the matter with the Home Ministry,” Chong added. — DayakDaily
