KUCHING, Oct 6: The Stakan River Flood Mitigation project, expected to be completed by April 10 next year, is progressing at 77.69 per cent.
In a statement today, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said he was informed that the current construction work is 2.96 per cent behind schedule.
He thus called on the contractor, Wasaraya Construction Sdn Bhd, to speed up the construction works so that the project could be completed on schedule for the benefit of the public.
The matter was discussed during a meeting held today after Yap had received complaints from the residents on the project’s slow progress.
The Stakan River Flood Mitigation project is estimated to cost about RM7,460,304.
Upon completion, it is expected to put an end to the flooding issue at Kota Sentosa Commercial Area and 7th Mile surrounding areas, which usually happens during the year-end monsoon season.
Also present during the meeting were Penghulu Lai Boon Khee, Kuching Drainage and Irrigation Department Division Engineer Faizal Suki, and contractor’s site engineer Derrick Chai. — DayakDaily
