KUCHING, Sept 27: The construction of a new four-storey building for St Joseph’s Private Schools, costing RM16.5 million, has officially commenced following the ground-breaking and site blessing ceremony on Thursday (Sept 26).
According to a media release today, the new facility will cater to both schools on a site between St Joseph’s Private Primary and Secondary Schools at Jalan Nagor.
The new building will include a multipurpose hall the size of three badminton courts, an extended state-of-the-art library and resource centre, a spacious dining area, a music room and dance studio, science labs, a green courtyard with smart learning spaces, and sub-level parking for staff.
Catholic Archbishop of Kuching Simon Poh officiated the ceremony alongside St Joseph’s Private Schools chief executive officer Christopher Chua, St Joseph’s Private Secondary School acting principal Fr Stanley Goh, and St Joseph’s Private Primary School headmistress Shirley Chong.
In his brief address, Poh emphasised the critical role of education in nation-building and development.
“These new learning spaces will contribute to this mission, providing a solid foundation for a new generation of students formed in the tradition of St Joseph,” he said.
The school’s board highlighted that the expansion is essential to accommodate the growing student and staff population while offering enhanced facilities.
Representatives from the school’s board of management, as well as students, teachers, and staff, were present to witness this momentous occasion. — DayakDaily
