KUCHING, March 22: The Sri Aman Resident’s Office has allegedly issued a circular calling for the halt of Padu, the national Central Database System, registration until further notice.

Dated March 21, 2024, the memo, which was spotted by DayakDaily, was issued to the Sri Aman District officer, Lubok Antu District officer, Pantu District officer, Lingga District acting officer, and Engkilili Sub-District administrative officer.

Allegedly signed by Resident Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, it is also directed to be forwarded for the attention of community leaders, village chiefs and Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs).

However, the memo did not explain the reasons for the suspension.

DayakDaily attempted to verify the authenticity of the memo by reaching out to the resident but was unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Sarawak ranks second highest in terms of Padu registrations with 810,000 out of 1.97 million citizens aged 18 years old and above, after Selangor with 1.02 million out of 4.24 million registrations to date.

According to Padu’s official Facebook page, the total number of registrations nationwide has reached 6.73 million as of March 21.

Padu, launched on Jan 2, allows the public to register and update their particulars until March 31 before the commencement of the second phase, involving algorithm development based on specific use case needs from April to June this year.

The Ministry of Economy emphasised that Padu’s implementation aims to enhance governance and improve policy planning and implementation based on data.

Padu’s objectives extend beyond retargeting subsidies and aid as it also seeks to comprehensively assess the socioeconomic standings of the populace. — DayakDaily
