KUCHING, Jan 25: Kuchingites, spot the cat mural that glows in the dark on the walls of Eco Mall at Samariang, Petra Jaya.

This latest local attraction named ‘Eco Mao’ by the hands of fine art artist Simon Tan took him one month to complete and cost RM30,000.

He said the mural uses paint that is durable and can last for up to 10 years while the cat’s eyes, nose and whiskers were drawn using special phosphorescent paint so that the painting would look different between daytime and night time.

“The effects during day and night is different, so when you see it during daylight it’s one image, and when you look at it at night, it’s another image,” he said during a livestream on Facebook by Sarawak Edition at the mural site earlier today.

When asked by reporters during the session on the choice of a cat as the mural’s subject among other icons of Sarawak, Tan said there were many choices presented to him earlier such as the hornbill, orang utan and other icons of Sarawak cultures.

He and his team finally decided on “kucing” (cat) because Kuching represents Sarawak and so the cat has come to be a symbol associated with Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Eco Mall Sabah and Sarawak Area Manager Jeff How revealed that the soft opening of the mall is scheduled for this coming Friday, Jan 29.

He also highlighted a few of the outlets operating in the mall namely H&L Supermarket, RM2.30 eco shop, SCR (Singapore Chicken Rice), Potato Swiss, Chicago 7, WFC (Whole Fried Chicken), Taka and so on.

With that, he welcomed members of the public to visit the mall on that day and check-in with the cat mural which glows in the dark. — DayakDaily
