BINTULU, Jan 22: A spike in Covid-19 cases in Bintulu linked to the Pasai Cluster in Sibu and Jelita Cluster in Miri had led to Sungai Plan housing area to be sealed off immediately.

Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong pointed out that this pivotal decision was made following ten new Covid-19 cases involving three families were detected in the area.

According to him, Bintulu Health Department had tested more than 500 individuals, and at least 10 samples had returned positive.

“To facilitate rapid surveillance and active case detection (ACD) operation, RPR Sungai Plan had to be urgently sealed off,” he said after attending a joint special meeting with the Disaster Management Committee today.

Tiong thus appealed to all Sungai Plan residents to undergo immediate mass screening held today (Jan 22) and tomorrow (Jan 23) which will run from 9am to 5pm.

Meanwhile, the mass screening operation with two screening counters opened today had also caused a snaking queue in the area.

Access to the area is restricted by 5pm.

Not wanting to see Bintulu turn into a high-risk Covid-19 red zone, Tiong reiterated that it was crucial that people in the area voluntarily come forward for the screening. — DayakDaily
