KUCHING, Aug 27: Six specially decorated vehicles will symbolically narrate the journey of Malaysia from its formation in 1960 to a futuristic nation at the National-Level Malaysia Day celebration which Sarawak will be hosting this year.

Scheduled to be held at Padang Merdeka on Sept 16, this year’s celebration would be themed ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih’.

According to a media release from the organising committee, the decorated vehicles, which are one of the celebration’s highlights, will parade through the main stage area and end their route at Gambir Street.

Another special segment would be a shadow play themed ‘United we stand, divided we fall’, which would express the friendship, cohesion, and peace as well as unity that prevails despite diversity and differences in nation-building.

Fourteen vehicles representing the states and federal territories in Malaysia participating in the Information Department’s Jalur Gemilang Merdeka convoy are expected to make their appearance at the event.

The evening’s celebration would culminate with an eight-minute fireworks display.

Other events planned to ensure a colourful, meaningful and unforgettable celebration include a laser light display, mass silat performance, 300-drums show, cultural performances as well as singing and dancing stage performances.
