LAWAS, Dec 12: The Ministry of Rural Development (KPLB) will set aside a special allocation to repair a bridge and cement footpath leading to Kampung Long Sukang in Lawas.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Abdul Khalid said his officers in Kuching will facilitate the channeling of the allocation for the two projects.
He said this to village residents during a meet-the-people session held at the village’s community hall yesterday.
Touching on the 12th Sarawak Election, Mahdzir called on voters of N81 Ba’Kelalan to give their mandate on polling day (Dec 18) to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Sam Laya.
“Sam Laya is not only a Lun Bawang boy but most of all, he came from this kampung ready to serve his people.
“It is important for us to elect leaders of a government that has collective views, struggles and mission in line with federal leaders in order to execute any projects planned for the area,” he said.
Mahdzir also disclosed that the proposed road project to link to Lawas, Bario, Limbang and Miri will be implemented.
The construction of the first phase involving a 70km-road from Lawas to Long Luping has been awarded and in progress while a 60km-road linking Long Semadong and Ba’ Kelalan would begin at a later phase.
“Meanwhile, a road project from Long Bidang, Indonesia to Ba’Kelalan covering 5km with an estimated cost of RM80 million has been approved by the ministry,” he added. — DayakDaily
