KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak-based e-wallet platform SPay Global’s upcoming international expansion will support cross-border QR, allowing foreign visitors to make online payments while in Malaysia.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said with the new feature, tourists from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, China, South Korea, and Cambodia, will be able to make payments by simply scanning a DuitNow QR code with their mobile banking apps or e-wallets.

“This is a positive initiative for the economy of the Sarawak region, especially considering the economic development status in the Borneo Islands, particularly with the relocation of Indonesia’s capital from Jakarta to Nusantara in Kalimantan,” he said in a speech text read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the ‘Karnival Celik Kewangan’ (KCK) Sarawak 2024 held at Vivacity Megamall today.

A copy of Abang Johari’s speech text was made available to DayakDaily after the event.

Launched as SarawakPay in 2018 as part of the State’s push to go digital, SPay Global has grown into a powerful e-wallet platform that’s now central to business, government, and daily life in Sarawak.

Since its launch, SPay Global has seen remarkable growth, processing a total of RM4.2 billion in transactions, with over 770,000 users and 91,000 registered merchants.

Today, SPay Global reached an exciting new milestone. The platform is now integrated with the ‘Interoperable QR’ service under PayNet’s DuitNow platform, enabling 24/7 fund transfers that are processed instantly, making it even easier for users to send and receive money on the go. — DayakDaily
