KUCHING, July 3: Sarawak Patriot Association pledges support and assistance to those raising the White Flag (Bendera Putih).
According to its secretary David Xavier Hii Chin Luong, recently there has been a movement which encourages those who are struggling to survive the Covid-19 pandemic to ask for assistance called the White Flag or “BenderaPutih” movement.
“SPA pledges support for the White Flag or the “BenderaPutih” movement and is also prepared to help those who desperately need food and essentials in view of this current lockdown.
“We would like to encourage those who are struggling financially to reach out for help by displaying a white flag or cloth in front of their house if they need immediate assistance,” he said in a statement today.
He added the lockdown, travel restrictions and social distancing would also have adverse mental health effects on people, and those affected should not be ashamed to reach out and get the assistance they need.
He pointed out that the fear of being stigmatised by others will prevent people from asking for help and there should not be any stigma or discrimination against those seeking assistance.
“There is no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed. Part of being a person is asking for help as well as helping others. If we forget this, we have lost a part of humanity in us,” he added. — DayakDaily
