SPA: Incentives needed to boost local industries

Datuk Dr Lau Pang Heng

KUCHING, Nov 4: Sarawak Patriots Association (SPA) hopes to see special incentives to be provided for Sarawak industries to encourage more local produced and assembled products.

Its chairman Datuk Dr John Lau Pang Heng appreciated the Sarawak Budget 2020 tabled by Chief Minister Datuk Partinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) today.

“When this happen, it will boost the Sarawak industries, and as a Sarawakian, we are happy that the Sarawak Government looks after Sarawak’s development, despite the lack of sufficient fund from the Federal government,” said Lau in a press statement today.

Lau also commended the Sarawak Government for taking legal actions by issuing a Notice of Assessment to Petronas for the non-payment of sales tax.

He questioned the reason for Petronas to hold back the payment of Sales Tax owed to the Sarawak government.

In general, Lau welcomed the people-centric Sarawak Budget 2020 as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg in Sarawak Legislative Assembly today.

He pointed out that out of the total allocation of RM9.891 bil, RM6,597 bil has been allocated as development expenditure.

“It showed that the government is serious in accelerating development for Sarawak to be at par with other developed states in West Malaysia.”

Lau also lauded other initiatives such as RM30 million to help needy Sarawakian graduates to re-pay their National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) loans; free bus service to students and an allocation of RM46.5 million allocated to repair dilapidated schools, to name a few. — DayakDaily
