SONG, Feb 14: The body of a man feared drown after the longboat he and six others were traveling in sunk in Nanga Sungai Song, was found today.
The body of Gawing Mancha, 47, was found in the Rajang River near Begalak Camp, 13km from the location where the longboat had sunk.
A spokesman from Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a call from a member of the public at 6.57am about the discovery of a body.
“Five firefighters using a boat and a lorry immediately rushed to the scene,” he said.
The body was recovered from the river and brought to Song Wharf.
In the incident on Sunday night (Feb 12), the longboat carrying seven passengers sunk after it was hit by strong waves. Two passengers who were unconscious were saved from drowning by the other passengers who survived. Six survived, including a two-year-old girl.
The victims were on their way to Song town from Rumah Ekeh, Nanga Pan, Song when the longboat sunk. — DayakDaily
