KUCHING, Nov 6: While certain quarters may say an election manifesto is not a bible, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will make sure that its promises are kept.

GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the coalition described the manifesto as an oath and commitment to the people.

“Some say the manifesto is not a bible. But the GPS manifesto is not an empty promise, unlike that of Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“They promised (recognition of) Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)—unfulfilled. They promised 20 per cent oil royalty to Sabah and Sarawak—unfulfilled.

“But if GPS gives a promise, we will fulfill (it),” he said during the launch of the GPS manifesto for the 15th General Election (GE15) held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here earlier tonight.

Abang Johari further said the GPS manifesto is based on five main pillars, 25 thrusts and 215 commitments.

The theme of the manifesto is ‘Ensuring Sarawak’s stability, progress and prosperity’.

He said that the inclusive manifesto would place emphasis on the B40 and M40 groups, youth, students, women, children, people with special needs, elderly citizens, civil servants, both urban and rural residents as well as all layers of society.

The 25 thrusts of the manifesto include the continuity of GPS’s struggle in restoring Sarawak’s rights as enshrined under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) report at the federal level.

In other words, winning big in GE15 will also empower GPS with a louder voice for Sarawak in Parliament to demand the rights for the restoration of rights and privileges in addition to obtaining more allocations and projects. — DayakDaily
