KUCHING, Oct 9: Sarawak DAP is urging the PWD and MBKS to look into the uneven road surface and water ponding issues at Jalan Lapangan Terbang, opposite Kuching Sentral.

Special assistant to Sarawak Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman, Michael Kong in a statement highlighted the water ponding together with the uneven surface issues are a nuisance to road users and might lead to accidents.

He added that a complaint has been lodged with the authorities more than a month earlier but no action has been taken.

“The PWD (Public Works Department) ought to look into the matters urgently.

“If time and effort can be spent on other roads within Kuching, then there is no excuse to not fix this portion of the road as well.

“Although the particular road falls within the jurisdiction of the PWD, MBKS (Kuching South City Council) should also not attempt to wash its hands clean by using its jurisdiction limits,” he asserted.

Kong opined that since Jalan Lapangan Terbang falls within MBKS’ jurisdiction, the council should also proactively seek PWD’s assistance to solve the matters urgently.

He also disclosed that a conscientious citizen had taken the liberty of informing MBKS about the matter but was informed that the road maintenance was undertaken by PWD.

Hence, Kong urged both PWD and MBKS to work hand-in-hand to solve the outstanding issues immediately. — DayakDaily
