SIBU, March 23: The mother of a former Malaysia Airlines Berhad employee, Syahrizan Sabri who passed away in February due to an illness, received assistance from the Sibu Social Security Organization (SOCSO) today.

Zainon Haron, 72, received a cheque for the funeral management benefit of RM2,000 and ‘Penakat Pension’ (retirement pension) benefit from Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapa’ee on behalf of SOCSO.

SOCSO Sibu Branch Manager Tan Phang Chia said the branch has taken proactive action through the SOCSO Caring Squad to immediately track down the beneficiaries to ensure they receive the benefits.

“In this case, we found that the deceased’s next of kin are eligible to receive assistance under the Disability Scheme that included the funeral management assistance amounting to RM2000 and the pension benefit,” he told reporters.

He added that the late Syahrizan was a contributor under the Employees Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4) and the Self -Employment Insurance Scheme Act (Act 800).

Under this act, he explained, contributors are eligible to receive benefits in the event of work accidents, disability and death due to illness and loss of employment.

“Contributors and beneficiaries can come to SOCSO to check their eligibility and then apply for the relevant benefits,” he said.

In this case, the next of kin of the deceased is his biological mother because the deceased was still single and had no children.

“His mother will receive the Penakat Pension for life. This assistance can ease the burden of heirs or dependents,” he said. — DayakDaily
