Social gathering cluster Jalan Muhibbah sees drastic jump with 66 Covid-19 cases

KUCHING, March 4: Social gathering cluster of Jalan Muhibbah in Betong saw a significant spike in cases with 66 new infections logged today, bringing the cluster’s total to 189 cases.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas informed that a total of 2,165 individuals have been screened whereby 1,839 were negative while 137 were still awaiting lab test results.


Jalan Muhibbah Cluster, which stemmed from a private gathering at a house, was one of two social gathering clusters that picked up new infections today.

The Buloh Cluster in Selangau, which emerged due to close interactions between residents of three longhouses in Sungai Buloh, registered four new cases today to take the cluster’s total to 32.
As of today, a total of 72 individuals have been screened whereby 40 were negative while no cases were pending for results.

Apart from that, two funeral clusters of Emperoh Jambu in Kuching and Gelong in Kapit contributed a total of 19 cases, community Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster in Kuching contributed six cases and workplace cluster of Sungai Bakong in Meradong contributed two cases to Sarawak’s Covid-19 daily statistics today.

Emperoh Jambu Cluster, which was linked to a funeral at a village in Padawan, reported another 16 new infections today to push the cluster’s tally to 198. A total of 1,000 individuals have been screened whereby 555 were negative and 247 still awaiting for test results.

Gelong Cluster, which emerged among community in Taman Sri Gelong at Jalan Selirik after a man tested positive following his father’s funeral, reported three new cases today to push the cluster’s total to 189. A total of 236 individuals have been screened whereby 47 were negative and no results were pending.

With six cases added to the Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster in Kuching, this thus take the total number of cases in the cluster to 53 so far. A total of 210 individuals have been screened whereby 157 were negative and no results were pending.

Sungai Bakong Cluster, which was linked to a workplace in Meradong, registered two more cases to push the cluster’s total to 149. A total of 1,348 individuals have been screened whereby 621 were negative while 578 were still awaiting for results.

In total, these six of 25 active clusters in Sarawak that recorded an increase in cases have contributed 97 cases to Sarawak’s new record high in daily Covid-19 cases today at 361.

The remaining 19 clusters did not report any cases today. They were Univista and Jalan Ho Pin in Samarahan; Kejatau and Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Jan Yong in Kapit; Geronggang and Mas Merah in Sibu; Kidurong Dua and Jun Heng in Bintulu; Nanga Lijau in Julau; Seruas in Beluru; Sebangkoi in Sri Aman; Bintang Daily in Meradong; Jalan Pengiran in Matu; Tabong in Bau, Indah Riang and Jalan Green in Kuching; Rakut and Jelita in Miri; as well as the infamous Pasai in Sibu and its Tangap Sub-Cluster in Subis.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded another record high for new cases today with 361 cases with Miri topping the list at 89 cases followed by Sibu (73), Bintulu (71), Betong (60), Kuching (22), Subis (11), Sarikei (9), Mukah (8), Kapit (6), Selangau and Serian (4 each), Meradong (3) and Julau (1).
This thus pushed the state tally of positive cases to 10,424. — DayakDaily
