KUCHING, March 1: Julau MP Larry Sng has left Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) due to the constituents’ demand for development which he could not honour, opines Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan.
Yesterday, Sng confirmed his resignation from PKR with immediate effect and subsequently pledged his support to Perikatan Nasional (PN).
He also handed over a Statutory Declaration (SD) to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in support of PN.
In December last year, Sng relinquished PKR Sarawak chairmanship to hand over the party to the Dayak leaders so as to lend the party more credibility.
“This time around he shifted allegiance to PN because he has not been able to serve his Julau constituency effectively due to lack of much-needed development.
“He must have felt the pinch from his constituents demanding development which he can’t honour,” Snowdan said in a statement.
Snowdan who is also Youth and Sports Assistant Minister alleged that Sng had abandoned his principles for development.
“While there can be many reasons when it comes to a person defending why he resigns or jumps ship, the bottom line is in politics, (when) one is not principled, one will always bank upon his democratic rights and that is the usual excuse,” said Snowdan.
Meanwhile, Snowdan also asserted that although resignation is Sng’s rights, Julau seat belongs to PRS.
“By now, I believe the voters in Julau are able to differentiate and judge what kind of representative they should choose come the next General Election (GE15).
“As far as we are concerned, Julau is PRS parliamentary seat and only PRS can nominate it’s candidate,” said Snowdan, adding that Sng was sacked from PRS for legitimate reasons and the party did not want to repeat the same mistakes. — DayakDaily
