Snowdan presents Unifor, MRP grants to Balai Ringin folks

KUCHING, Oct 19: Longhouse chiefs should carry out their duties as stipulated in their appointment letters, advises Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

“They can always check with the government agencies and officers what are development projects they can apply for the benefit of the rakyat,” Snowdan was reported as saying during a meet-the-people session at Rh Merinding Mangku, Kampung Rapak Baru recently, according to a statement

He also advised the people not to let politics divide them especially in longhouses but instead embrace the concept of ‘segulai, sejalai’ (togetherness)

Snowdan, who is also the Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports reminded the people to be aware of conmen going around disguised as government officers on the pretext of facilitating development but instead are looking to exploit their land.

At the function, Snowdan also presented Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) grants to St Mark Chapel of Kg Sg Pinang (RM80,000) and St Luke’s Chapel of Sebangkoi Jaya (RM40,000) via the chapels’ representatives.

Snowdan, who is also the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth chief presented Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds totalling RM47,000 to three longhouses and pledged MRP funds worth RM141,000 to twelve longhouses nearby.

Among those present were a political secretary to the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie, Penghulu Johnny Lumi, Penghulu Pelie Jumbu and about 80 tuai rumah and councillors. — DayakDaily
