Smuggling attempt foiled, goods worth RM400,000 confiscated

All the vehicles were left at the scene after the illegals escaped.

KUCHING, June 29: The military foiled an attempt by a group of illegal immigrants to smuggle goods into Sarawak when five vehicles that were carrying smuggled eggs, vegetables, fertiliser and wooden boards worth RM400,000 were confiscated on Sunday morning.

The incident was discovered by a team led by Major Ahmad Fazrin Mohd Jelas of the 4th Royal Armoured Corps Regiment on duty at the Malaysian-Kalimantan Indonesian border at 11 am.


According to a report issued by the 1st Infantry Division headquarters, the team which was patrolling at Ladang Empaling, Kg Stass Sarawak located 50 metres from the border had noticed the illegals uploading the goods.

The team later raided the scene and all the illegals had escaped across the Indonesian border while leaving all the smuggled goods behind. All the good were later confiscated by the team.

The case was later handed over to the police. A suspect who was believed to be involved in the smuggling activity was also arrested and later brought to Bau Police Station for investigation. -DayakDaily
